ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Born in St. Paul, Alberta, printmaker and sculptor Julie Chapledaine attended the Alberta College of Art in Calgary where she studied 3D Digital Animation and received her Diploma of Applied Arts in Sculpture. She also took history and philosophy classes at the University of Calgary and studied at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina. Julie also taught Sculpture for the Adult Education program for the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal in Quebec and taught 2D and 3D Design at the University of Calgary, Old Sun College in Gleichen, Alberta and the Drumheller Penitentiary. Working both in 2D and 3D, Julie explores space, depth and dimension through drawing, painting and sculpture. The push-pull tension and the relationship between two and three dimensions led Julie to pursue relief sculpture, in which she continues to evolve her technique and style. Julie’s work has been exhibited publicly in a variety of locations throughout Alberta and Canada, including Calgary, St. Paul, Edmonton, Cochrane, Millarville, Drumheller, and Milk River, and Silverton, British Columbia and Montreal, Quebec. She has sculpted for a variety of dinosaur projects, including the Canada/China Dinosaur Project, Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology and the Calgary Zoological Society. Julie has also participated in restoration projects for Canada Fossils in Calgary; Banff Cave & Basin; Museon, Den Hague, Holland; and the National Science Museum in Tokyo, Japan.
