ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Bazalais Danoit immigrated from Haiti to Montreal, Quebec in 1979 and a year later moved to Calgary, Alberta. In 1989 he relocated again, to Vancouver Island, with his family. He currently lives in Nanaimo and is employed in the public school system as an educator. He also coaches soccer and operates his own soccer school. Art has always been a source of enjoyment and peace in Danoit’s life. Sharing his work with others is deeply satisfying. Life for Danoit is busy, but regardless he manages to devote time to his passion. His sculptural and functional ceramics, which include platters, vessels, and whistles, depict animals and animal relations, and reveal the artist’s experimentation with different building, sculpting, carving, and glazing methods.
