ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Frances Alty-Arscott is an Alberta watercolour and acrylic painter, known both for her works and for her years of dedication to educating others. She received her BFA in 1980 from the University of Alberta. She has continued her professional development through various seminars, and workshops such as that of the Emma Lake School in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Her work is inspired by the landscape of the Alberta countryside and woodlands. She finds the medium of watercolour to be especially suited to her interpretation of the landscape, using both subtle colours and stark colour juxtapositions. The physical properties of watercolour, and the opportunity to create unexpected results from the lack of total control over the medium, are particularly appealing to this artist. Her work has been seen in many galleries throughout Canada and the United States. In the Edmonton area her work is represented at the Front Gallery, the AGA, Harcourt House and the Art Gallery of St Albert. She also specializes in teaching a creative approach to elementary school art education, as well as to seniors, including through the University of Alberta’s Extension and ELLA (Edmonton Lifelong Learners’ Association) program, and at MacEwan University.
