ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Kay Arima was born in Japan and has resided in Alberta since 1971. She lives in Vauxhall, Alberta and is a mother of two children. Her paintings often depict rural scenes, and a common theme in her work is the once-ubiquitous grain elevators that are a staple of the prairie townscape. She also regularly depicts floral themes, having had formal training in floral arrangement from Nippon-Koryu in Japan. Her work has been featured in art shows and exhibitions throughout southern Alberta, and she has participated in numerous group and solo shows in both corporate and public venues. Before coming to Alberta, Arima’s work was recognized with prizes and awards at a young age, and she received formal art instruction at the Musashino Art University and the Chuo Art School, both in Japan. Her poster and calligraphy work has won awards, and her paintings have been recognized at juried competitions in Alberta as well. Kay Arima learned to speak English after immigrating to Canada and over time earned a BFA from the University of Lethbridge in 1990. Compiled 2014
