ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Celebrated landscape painter Ken Christopher was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1942. He attended Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and the Alberta College of Art in Calgary. Ken is a fixture in the Calgary art community, and although in his seventies, he continues to paint with passion and has no plans to retire. Bold. Enthusiastic. Important. Ken’s paintings not only epitomize these values, but they are also full of joy. The viewer can feel Ken’s delight as they peruse the vigorous brushstrokes and vibrant colours. Through these works, Ken explores the relationships in and the beauty of nature, capturing the sense of place and highlighting his closeness with the land. Influenced by the modernist works of Jackson Pollock, Ken’s work folds abstract concepts into traditional landscape painting. In addition to landscapes, some of Ken’s pieces include human figures and western and abstract themes. Ken’s work has been exhibited throughout Canada and in California and Japan. His pieces are in a number of permanent collections, including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Bank of Montreal, the Canada Council Art Bank, the Canadian Embassy in New York, Canadian Pacific, the Art Gallery of Alberta, Esso Resources, the Glenbow Museum, Imperial Oil, Xerox Canada, PetroCanada Petroleum, the Prime Minister of Canada's Collection, Royal Bank, Shell Canada and the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies.
