| ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Although he was born in Toronto, watercolour painter Terry Kehoe moved with his family to Alberta in 1930; he grew up in Calgary and eventually settled in Edmonton. In his early life he fostered an appreciation of Alberta’s spectacular landscapes, particularly the prairies, the North Saskatchewan River Valley (which he eventually took to hiking), the splendours of Sylvan Lake, and the leisure topographies of the province’s many golf courses.
After training at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary under H.G. Glyde, Illingworth Kerr, Stanford Perrott, and Luke Lindoe, Kehoe worked for thirty-nine years as an artist, salesman, and manager at Neon Products Ltd., a national electric advertising company.
Following his retirement, Kehoe worked for years with New Trail Magazine at the University of Alberta, volunteering for Edmonton’s Food Bank, fundraising for Newman Theological College, and teaching watercolour painting to students eager to learn from his decades of experience with fine and commercial art. He painted from his home studio in Edmonton and his second studio at Sylvan Lake, where he mounted exhibitions. He also staged a show at Walsh Gallery in Red Deer.
The Alberta Foundation for the Arts preserves Kehoe’s 81 cm x 99 cm watercolour “Oxford University – Lincoln College” (1989) in its permanent collection.
