ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Born in Medicine Hat, ceramic artist Harvey Fix has attended a wide variety of ceramics workshops and studied at the Medicine Hat Community College. His work has been exhibited numerous times in his hometown and at several group shows with the Medicine Hat Potters Association. Harvey’s pieces are held in private collections in Germany, Great Britain, Eastern USA and Canada. Exposed to the craft of ceramics as an adolescent, Harvey did not seriously begin making art until 1978. Until this time, he was entrenched in a full-time career in communications, working with Canadian Pacific Telecommunications, AGT, and finally, Telus. Harvey uses the Raku method in his work and often brings elements of his current and former interests and life into his pieces. His incorporation of communications devices in his installations, and amalgamation of elements of his prairie home and his love of fishing into others demonstrates the personal nature of Harvey’s passion.
