ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: |
I was born and raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta where my love of the outdoors and my facination with drawing emerged at a very early age. During my formative education many art teachers influenced my developement but my drawing technique is largely self taught. I chose the medium of pencil and graphite in order to capture the essence of my subject material wthout the distraction of color. I enjoy the unforgiving nature of pencil and the inherent challenge of black and white. I was particularly attracted to the drawings of Hans Holbien the younger, Michelangelo and DaVinci as a young student, amazed by their portrayal of light and shape. I am represented in numerous collections, both private and corporate, around the world and owe a debt of gratitude to an number of galleries particularly Masters Gallery (Pete Ohler and Rod Green) in Calgary, Alberta, the city in which I presently live. I have retired after teaching high school for 38 years and look forward to having more time to devote to drawing.
