ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The work of Joanna Drummond is endlessly evolving. Originally from Toronto, she moved from Ontario to St. Albert, Alberta in 1976, where she was instrumental in the community arts scene. Her guidance and eagerness helped establish the Potters Guild in St. Albert, AB. Her passion and talent in sculpting clay (blending traditional hand building with new and unexpected techniques) and firing Raku catapulted her onto the national scene as an artist as well as an instructor. Her ability to master this complex process has given her the confidence to gamble on her own intuition. Drummond now resides in North Saanich, BC, where she pushes her discipline in new directions while growing and creating clay sculptures in her Cinnamon Hill Studio. Drummond’s work has been exhibited in The Mountain Galleries of Jasper, Banff and Whistler. She has enjoyed numerous private and public gallery showings throughout Western Canada. Her work can be found in the collections of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, St. Albert Arts and Heritage Foundation, and the City of St. Albert, as well as corporate and private collections globally. She is the recipient of a St. Albert Community Recognition Award in Arts and Culture, the United Nations International St. Albert Woman of Distinction Award for Philanthropy, and the St. Albert Mayor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts.
