ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Chris Bennett was born in Winchester, England and immigrated as a young child with his family to Canada in 1975, settling in Medicine Hat, Alberta. In 1996, Bennett graduated with distinction from the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) Diploma program where he had focused on painting. In 1997, he received his BFA, also from ACAD. Bennett has held several solo shows in Calgary galleries and participated in group exhibitions around Alberta and Ontario, including at the Art Gallery of Alberta, at the Nickle Arts Museum in Calgary and as a part of Calgary’s Artweek Festival. In 1998, his work showed alongside that of his brother, Martin Bennett, at a 20th Anniversary Exhibition at the Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery. Bennett’s paintings deal with images, signs and symbols as a means of visual communication, which he sees as more universal than spoken language and therefore a more effective means of communicating information. Bennett lives and works in Calgary. His work is held in private and public collections. Compiled 2014
