ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Jackie Anderson has lived in Calgary most of her life. She studied at the University of Calgary and attended the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) where she earned a Diploma of Applied Arts in jewellery and metal arts in 1976. She is a recipient of the 2002 Alumni Award of Excellence from ACAD and, in the same year, was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Anderson’s work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions around North America. It is held in many private and public collections, and she has completed commissions for public organizations like the Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women, the Glenbow Museum, Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Alberta Pavilion at Vancouver’s Expo ’86. Anderson has shared her knowledge of materials and design through workshops and lectures at universities, museums and galleries and by mentoring emerging metal artists. Her work is inspired by the design process and the evolution of twentieth century design, and she draws elements of visual culture, the urban landscape, architecture and commercial signage into her jewellery, eyewear and other work. She uses traditional and unusual materials in her multimedia creations that tell stories she describes as often quite personal, humorous and yet elegant. Compiled 2014
