| ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Born in Lafayette, Indiana, Linda Stanier moved to Arizona with her family when she was a young girl, before eventually coming to Alberta in 1978. Linda studied art history before joining an Arts and Design program and falling in love with ceramics. She earned her Associate Diploma in Fine Arts from Red Deer College in 1988. Linda worked on a number of advisory committees and was the Director for the Alberta Art Council. She also taught for the Parkland Potters Guild and the University of Alberta and served on a number of juries for grants and exhibitions. A world traveller, Linda participated in a variety of international arts and cultural exchanges in Greece, Mexico, Japan and Canada.
Proud of her background, Linda’s work mirrors both her Arizona and Alberta experiences. Her works often reflect inspiration from her memories of Mexico, using her own milegros (small metal charms) in her pieces. Bright colours and geometric patterns adorn her beautiful, functional, and durable platters, dishes and bowls. Each piece a testament to her heritage and incredible talent.
Linda lived and worked in Stony Plain. Her work has been exhibited throughout Alberta, and in Manitoba, Idaho, Minnesota and Greece. Her pieces are held in various private collections and by British Petroleum and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
Linda passed away in 2004. In her honour, the Alberta Craft Council created the Linda Stanier & Family Memorial Award for Excellence in Ceramics. |
