Inspired by her experiences with nature, Kyla’s prints seek to bring forth her very personal relationship with the natural imbued with the Eastern philosophies of contemplation and meditation. Her use of black, white and shades of grey, seek to take the viewer further away from reality, opening them up to personal interpretation. Movement and the transitional nature of our environments and our existence are represented by repetition and the dichotomy of texture and space. In addition to producing her own work, Kyla has taught printmaking and art fundamentals at the University of Alberta and taught printmaking for the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists in Edmonton. Kyla has received multiple grants, and her work has been exhibited in Canada, Japan, Belgium, Thailand, the Netherlands, Istanbul, USA, Germany, Italy and India. Her work is held in the collections of Frans Masereel Centrum in Kasterlee, Belgium; the Istanbul Museum of Graphic Arts; the Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists in Edmonton; TD Bank, the University of Alberta; Purdue University Galleries in West Lafayette, USA; MacEwan University and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
