The Royal Scot on tour.

"Because the locomotive of the famous train has stationary grates, coaling the "Royal Scot" crack flyer of the London, Midland and Scittish railway, was one of the special problems during her Canadian - American tour. Used to a diet of Welsh Anthracite, reputed to be the best steam coal in the world, the British train was fussy as to what kind of coal she consumed on this side of the Atlantic. Photo shows the Royal Scot at North Bend, B. B. on the main line of the C.P.R., taking coal from a C.P.R. gondola. The coal was specifically screened and bagged before being put aboard the tender of the British visitor. Canadian coal as supplied by the C.P. R., however, was apparently to the Royal Scot's liking for the British train succeeded in crossing the Selkirks and Rockies over mile-high summits without benefit of "pusher" power and entirely under her own steam."
