Question Number 369

Hi I would like to know if the birth records you hold would be different than the Copy of Birth records from the Record. Why am asking is Im missing information on the birth record and am wondering if the registration record would show the missing information. Thanks

It was not clear from your inquiry which birth records you were referring to.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta holds birth registration records for some (but not all) communities in Alberta for the time period ca. 1870 - 1980.

A typical birth registration record lists the name of the child, the gender, the date of birth, the place of birth, the Father's name, and the name of the informant.

The Mother is typically not identified unless the child was illegitimate (in which cases the Father would not be listed). The name of the informat is sometimes, but not always, the attending physician. It may also be a family member. There is no information in the record about the parents (e.g. date or place of marriage) or other siblings, etc.
