Question Number 467
when I visit the archives will I be able to look up homestead records myself? and will I be able to take photocopies or photos of the records?
If you have a legal land description, then you may look up the microfilm reel number and the file number for a particular homestead record at the Provincial Archives. This information may be found on a database created by the Alberta Genealogical Society (AGS). This database is a name index to a collection of land files held on microfilm and the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Many of these files relate to homestead lands granted in Alberta between 1870 and 1930.
You may print pages off of the microfilm, and the charge is $0.35 per page. It is not permitted to take photographs in the Provincial Archives.
