Question Number 483

Can you tell me where you can request to obtain your own school records?

For most School Districts (SDs) in Alberta, the Provincial Archives of Alberta holds administrative records from the Department of Education. These include correspondence, lists of local ratepayers, building inspection reports, minutes of annual meetings, and similar material. These records are primarily about school finance. Teachers are only very rarely mentioned by name, and students are virtually never identified in these records.

As well, the Provincial Archives holds attendance registers for only a few School Districts in Alberta. If you are looking for records for the Edmonton Public School Board, it maintains its own archives:

Edmonton Public Schools Archives and Museum
    10425-99 Avenue Edmonton, AB T5K 0E5
    Phone: (780) 422-1970
    E-mail: archives@epsb.ca

Edmonton Catholic Schools also maintain their own archives. There contact information is:
    Edmonton Catholic School District
    9807-106 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, T5K 1C2
    Phone: (780) 441-6000 Fax: (780) 425-8759 E-mail: scarletth@ecsd.net
If none of these option are sucessful I suggest getting in touch with the individual school or school district.
