Question Number 79

In Dec.,1968, the Alberta Government placed The Security Trust Company Limited into Receivership under the direction of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & co. Because of outstanding mortgages, whose maturity date could be as high as 20 years, the Alberta Treasury Branch was appointed to handle them. As the Executor of an Estate which holds certificates from Security Trust, I am most anxious to determine the final settlement of Security Trust and wonder if your archives can shed any light on the matter. I have contacted all the usual sources i.e. Sup`t. of Bankruptcies, Treasury Branch, current owners of Peat, Marwick, etc. with no luck. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. R. Steele

The Alberta Treasury Branches has not sent any of their archival records to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. All of their records are still in the custody of the ATB.

As far as we can determine, Head Office records are retained indefinitely while the local branches retain the records for only seven years, after which time they are destroyed.
