ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Arthur (Art) Evoy was born in Outlook, Saskatchewan in 1924. Following service with the Royal Canadian Artillery and the Royal Canadian Air Force, he attended Moose Jaw Normal School. He subsequently taught school for three years before moving to Edmonton where he took up work as a layout artist, fashion artist and industrial illustrator before enrolling at the University of Alberta to study painting under H.G. Glyde while working on his Bachelor of Education degree. He taught art at Victoria Composite High School from 1964 to 1980, during which time he began to paint professionally, and took a sabbatical 1972 in order to resume graduate studies in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Alberta. In 1983, Art Evoy and his wife moved to Vancouver Island and then to the Okanagan. In 1987-88, he taught live drawing and watercolour classes at Malaspina College in Nanaimo BC, and in 1990, taught a watercolour class at Okanagan College in Venon. In 1993, Art Evoy returned to Outlook, Saskatchewan, where he died in 1994. Art Evoy worked primarily in watercolour and acrylics, usually focusing on landscape, which he presented in a style that ranged from representational to abstract, depending on his response to the individual subject. His work was exhibited widely across the country and he is represented in government collections in Japan, South Korea and Alberta, including Government House, Alberta Energy, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and in many other corporate and private collections.
