ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Ronald (Ron) Myren was born in Galloway, British Columbia. Myren studied at the Alberta College of Art (today the Alberta College of Art and Design). He worked at the Edmonton Art Gallery, from 1966 to 1980, as the Chief Preparator, the Registrar, and in exhibit installations. He also taught Drawing at the Edmonton Art Gallery, from 1970 to 1973, and painting, from 1983 to 1987. For a brief period of time, Myren was also an instructor with the University of Alberta Extension department, where he instructed Painting, Landscape Painting, and Pen and Ink drawing. Myren is well known in Alberta for his oil and landscape paintings, especially those inspired and painted in the area west of Edmonton. Myren’s brushwork is essential to his painting style, as it creates the feeling of dense forests and lush undergrowth. His choice to reduce the viewers’ field of vision also enhances the relationship between the viewer and the landscape. In 1973, Myren was the winner of the Canadian Art Gallery Purchase Prize. He had solo exhibitions at the Edmonton Art Gallery, the Downstairs Gallery in Edmonton, The Mira Godard Gallery in Toronto, the Mira Godard Gallery in Calgary, the Hett Gallery in Edmonton, and the Kathleen Laverty Gallery in Edmonton. His work was also shown in a plethora of group exhibitions in the 1970s and 1980s. His lush and intimate landscape paintings reside in collections across Alberta.
