| ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: |
Vivian Carroll Lindoe was born and primarily educated in Calgary, studying at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (now the Alberta College of Art and Design) as well as the Instituto d’Allende in San Miguel Mexico. Acknowledged as a member of the small group of post-war Calgary artists from the generation that pioneered professional practice in the province, she was a painter, print-maker, ceramist and fibre artist (working in batik) and also taught both painting and ceramics. She played a major part in the production of many of the early works created by the Lindoe Pottery Studios in Medicine Hat from 1954 – 1957. In addition, she served as president and exhibition coordinator of the Medicine Hat Community Art Clubs Association.
Her work was shown in travelling exhibitions representing the work of Alberta artists in Calgary, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Mexico and the USA and was included in the collection at Alberta House, London England. She was married to well-known artist Luke Lindoe, founder of Medicine Hat’s Plainsman Clays, and daughter Carroll Taylor-Lindoe and grandson Damian Moppett are both professional artists. |
