| OTHER HOLDINGS: | Vervoort, Frank | ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1930, celebrated teacher and painter Frank Vervoort moved with his family to Magrath, Alberta in 1948. He received his artistic training at the Alberta College of Art, the Institute of Allende in Mexico, and the National Hoger Institute in Belgium. Upon his return from Belgium, Frank began teaching, first children’s art classes for the Allied Arts Centre, and then at the Alberta College of Art, where he taught until his untimely death in 1983.
Frank enjoyed spending time outdoors, in the midst of the landscapes he loved to paint. His paintings are well-composed, broad spectrum renderings. Frank did not concentrate on small detail, but sought to translate his observations through bold colour choices, textures and tones. Through his work, Frank attempted to expand his own awareness of his surroundings as well as that of the viewer.
Frank’s work has been shown in exhibitions throughout Alberta, and in Prince Edward Island and Mexico. Some of his paintings are held in the public collections of the Alberta College of Art + Design, the Alberta Foundation of the Arts, Cardinal Energy Ltd., Nova Corporation, Pancanadian Petroleum Ltd., Traditions Fine Art Ltd., as well as in numerous private collections. |
