| OTHER HOLDINGS: | Carson, Chris | ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Contemporary mixed media artist CW Carson was born in Edmonton, Alberta in 1959. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta and received his Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of British Columbia.
A painter, drawer, sculptor and installation artist, CW’s methods and materials are as varied as his subject matter. CW uses a variety of forms, including landscapes, portraits, sculptures and collages to deal with diverse topics, including pop culture, consumerism, waste and environment. With a satirical slant and a nod to high art, CW enjoys playing with the inherent contradictions in his subject matter. Process is as important as content, as CW carefully layers his materials, often found objects, and pays close attention to their viewing placement.
Participating in solo shows, installations and group shows, CW’s work has been shown in exhibitions throughout Alberta, including shows at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Latitude 53, SNAP Gallery, Harcourt House Gallery, the Prairie Art Gallery, Douglas Udell Gallery and the Glenbow Museum. His commissions include pieces for Syncrude Canada, the Edmonton Public School Board and Alberta Agriculture. His work has also been shown in Vancouver and Ontario, and a number of his pieces are held in private and public collections in Canada and the United States.
