ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Gordon Snyder is an artist, curator, and writer. He has curated exhibitions throughout Canada and Europe; has written and published work about arts and artists in Canada; and has worked as a gallerist, curator, and museum manager in British Columbia and Alberta. Snyder studied art education at the University of Alberta, applied art at the Alberta College of Art and Design, and completed post-graduate work at the University of Lethbridge. After graduation, Snyder worked as part-owner and director of Canadian Art Galleries in Calgary; worked at the Glenmore Gallery in Toronto; and opened a fine art consulting business. In 1989, Snyder moved to British Columbia to continue his career in gallery and museum management, working at the Burnaby Art Gallery and the Burnaby Village Museum. There, Snyder worked with staff on heritage management, in all areas of marketing, communications, and public relations, and was an active fundraiser. Snyder was a long-time friend of artist Illingworth Kerr, whom he met while studying at Alberta College of Art and Design. Snyder acted as his representative and curated two major exhibitions of Kerr's work including Harvest of the Spirit - Illingworth Kerr Retrospective at the Edmonton Art Gallery in 1985 which travelled to nine galleries across Canada. Snyder eventually inherited Kerr's slide collection, which he donated to the University of Calgary in 1999. Snyder currently lives and works in Edmonton and Wainwright, Alberta.
