ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Graham Peacock began working in abstraction in 1961 and continues to this day, primarily working in acrylic and collage. He is best known for his poured paintings in acrylic. Boldly coloured and textural, this work is part of the “New, New Painters” legacy. Peacock attended the University of London Goldsmith's School of Art, (1962-66) and Leeds College of Art (1966-67). He won an Italian Government Scholarship, 1968-69 and studied at The British School in Rome, Italy. Peacock has lived in Canada since 1969. He was Professor at the University of Alberta's Department of Art and Design (Edmonton, AB) from 1969 until 2009. He has conducted painting workshops in Canada, Italy, South Africa and the United States. Peacock’s work has been featured in more than 30 solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions since 1969. His solo exhibitions include: Graham Peacock at 60: a Retrospective twenty three year survey, 1982 (2005) at the Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton, AB); Gallery One (Toronto, ON); and Galerie Dambier Massett (Paris, France). Peacock exhibited in an additional 38 international exhibitions from 1989 until 2002, with a group of artists who became known as “The New New Painters" in Belgium, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, South Africa, South Korea, the United States and Canada. Peacock’s work resides in numerous public collections internationally including: Museum of Modern Art, (Vienna, Austria); National Gallery of Prague (Czech Republic) Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA, USA) Government of Canada, ‘Canadiana Fund’ (Ottawa, ON), Art Gallery of Alberta, (Edmonton, AB) Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax, NS), Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA), and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, (BC). Peacock was President of the Alberta Society of Artists (1972 and 1973); Founding member of The Edmonton Contemporary Artists’ Society (1992) and “The New New Painters” (1990). A 400 page full colour monograph Graham Peacock A Retrospective was published in 2005.
