ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Born in Brussels, Ontario, Janet Cardiff received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1980 and her Masters of Visual Arts from the University of Alberta in 1983. Janet also studied at the Malispina Print Shop in Vancouver and the Banff Centre for the Arts and completed a media residency at Western Front. Previously based in Lethbridge, Janet and her family now split their time between Berlin and rural British Columbia. A conceptual and installation artist, Janet regularly works with her husband, George Bures Miller. Their installation pieces combine visual and auditory elements to surround the viewer, enveloping them and creating an otherworldly experience. In her solo work, Janet has moved to using physical elements to create a more immersive experience for the audience. Janet’s work has been shown in solo exhibitions throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. She has also participated in group exhibitions in North America, Europe, and in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Brazil and Chile. Janet’s work is held in numerous public collections, including Air Canada, the Canada Council Art Bank, Hart House, Musée D’Art Contemporain and Toronto Dominion Bank. She has also received numerous grants and awards and has given lectures and workshops throughout Canada.
