ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Born in Vancouver, and educated at the Alberta College of Art and Design and the Institute de Allende in San Miguel, Mexico, Britton Francis painted figures and landscapes before transitioning to focus on employing magic realistic aesthetics—likely arising from or reinforced by his time in Mexico—to compose still lifes using watercolour and egg tempera. Francis’ work has been exhibited in the Frye Museum of Seattle, as well as other U.S. cities, Canada, England and Australia and has received top honours in the Northwest Watercolour Exhibition for three consecutive years. The Artist’s Magazine International Still Life competition in Cincinnati recognised his painting “Forbidden Fruit” with an award (1988). In addition to being an entry in Who’s Who in British Columbia, Francis was a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. He died in 2008.
