| OTHER HOLDINGS: | Harper, Gordon | ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Gordon Harper’s atmospheric oil paintings reflect the contemporary urban landscape. He graduated in 1997 with a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta (Edmonton, AB), majoring in painting and drawing, after completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dean’s List) at the University of Calgary in 1993. He attended the Emma Lake Drawing and Painting Workshop through the University of Saskatchewan in 1992, and completed the Art and Design Program at Medicine Hat College in 1991.
Harper won the Louise McKinney Scholarship (1991 and 1992), the Hutchinson Architects’ Scholarship (1991) and the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship (1989). His solo exhibitions have appeared at Peter Robertson Gallery (Edmonton, AB), Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre (Medicine Hat, AB) and Agnes Bugera Gallery (Edmonton, AB). In 2010, Harper’s work was featured in a five-year retrospective at Medicine Hat’s Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre (AB). Harper has been included in numerous group exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Alberta and the Legislature Building (Edmonton, AB) and the Centre Gallery (Calgary, AB). Most recently, his work has appeared in the group shows Night Hours, the Art Gallery of St. Albert, AB (2016), Landscapes Reconstructed, the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Banff, AB (2016), and Summer Heat, at Peter Robertson Gallery, Edmonton, AB (2016). His work is held in numerous private collections and in public collections such as the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the City of Medicine Hat. |
