ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: George Littlechild's mother, Rachel Littlechild, was a Plains Cree member of the Erminskin Reserve in Hobbema, and his father, James E. Price, was of Scottish/Micmac extraction from New Brunswick. He received his diploma in Art and Design from Red Deer College in 1984 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, in 1988. That same year he pursued independent studies at The Banff Centre in Alberta. Raised in a foster home and separated from his Cree community, his mixed media paintings record his personal and family history as well as his reclamation and reconnection with ancestral culture. Littlechild believes colours possess spiritual cleansing and purifying powers, and is known for his finesse as a colourist as well as his collaging of haunting vintage photographs. His artwork has been exhibited throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. He is well represented in several private and public collections. He is also the author/illustrator of three children's books, including the award winning publication This Land is My Land. George Littlechild now lives in British Columbia.
