ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Christian D. Barr lives in Wildwood, Alberta. With Enzien Kufeld, he operates Urban Forest Design Studio, a gallery, store, studio and living space. He is a potter, clay artist and designer working primarily in wood-fired ceramics. Barr was born in Edmonton, where he lived for several years. He holds a Diploma in Architectural Technology from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (1991), and he has participated in workshops on ceramics and wood-fire. His work shows primarily in Alberta, but he has also participated in exhibitions in Australia and the United States. He was named Emerging Artist 2004 by Ceramics Monthly and in 2009 was presented with the Linda Stanier and Family Memorial Award for Excellence in Ceramics by the Alberta Craft Council.
Barr served as the Editor of InTouch, the Alberta Potters’ Association newsletter, from 2003 to 2006 and was chair of the Alberta Potters’ Association board from 2001 to 2005. For two years in a row, Barr was invited to participate in the Juniata College Artist in Residence program in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He curated the 2004 exhibition, Clay Creates Culture, and he has taught workshops at Urban Forest and for the University of Alberta, Faculty of Extension and the Alberta Potters’ Association.
