| ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Zbigniew W. Gortel was always fascinated by photography. He has been taking photographs and processing them in a darkroom since the age of about 12. He never had any formal training in photography. Instead, he trained as a physicist and began his professional life at Warsaw University (Poland) and completed it at University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB (Professor Emeritus). His scientific career did not leave time for photography, so he pursued his passion for art in earnest only after his retirement. In 2004, he switched from slides to digital photography. His photography focuses on people in their environment and urban landscape. |
