ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | (T.) Scott Cumberland graduated in 2003 with a BFA (Great Distinction and Distinguished Exhibition) from University of Saskatchewan. In 2007, he received an MFA from the University of Alberta. Cumberland began practicing his art in Edmonton following his graduation. His roots are in modern abstraction and his acrylic paintings playfully explore sculptural illusion, colour and texture. He has had solo exhibitions in Edmonton and other Alberta cities including: Hold My Beer and Watch This...(Peter Robertson Gallery, Edmonton, AB, 2015); A Space Oddity (Esplanade Art Gallery, Medicine Hat, AB, 2015) and The Sweet Suite (The Works Art and Design Festival, Edmonton, AB, 2014). He has also been included in numerous group exhibitions including: 50th Anniversary Exhibitions Art and Design 2.0 (Fine Arts Building Gallery, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, 2015); Wild Rose Abstract (Helen E. Copeland Gallery, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, USA, 2014); Wild Rose Abstract (Yuill Gallery, Medalta, Medicine Hat, AB, 2014); and Fresh Paint: A Sampling of Painting in Edmonton (Enterprise Square Galleries, Edmonton, AB ,2014).
His work is represented internationally in private collections, and featured in public Canadian collections such as the Canada Council Art Bank, Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the University of Alberta, and the University of Saskatchewan collection. Currently residing in Edmonton, he is an instructor with the Department of Art and Design at the University of Alberta. |
