| OTHER HOLDINGS: | Rossier, Ulrike | ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Ulrike (Uli) Rossier is a prolific painter with a highly distinctive style, creating richly coloured drawings with playful designs. She often explores patterns and shapes in her art, and is always looking to capture the links between and within these shapes. She considers her drawings to be abstract representations of nature, the seasons, and her own mood.
Rossier has always had an interest in art, and prior to painting, she had her own loom and taught weaving. A brain aneurism left Rossier with no short-term memory, and she now lives in a group home in Edmonton, Alberta. She paints in the studio at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, and typically works in oil and pastels. Day to day, Rossier may not be able to remember the pieces she works on, but she can always recognize her work as her own. She paints in the moment, expressing her feelings about a particular subject she is considering. A consistent element in her work is the colour green, which for Rossier represents the colour of growth and life.
Rossier frequently exhibits her work throughout Edmonton, including in the You Looking At Me exhibition and publication at the Stollery Gallery at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts and The Gallery at Milner (Library) in 2011; the Special Olympics Exhibition show in 2009, and various other group shows throughout the city. In 2010, Rossier was awarded the People’s Choice Award from the Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts.
