| OTHER HOLDINGS: | Housego, Kenneth | ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Kenneth Housego obtained a Diploma in Painting from Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology in Rexdale, ON, graduating with Honours in 1972. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, NS in 1974 and completed advanced studies in woodworking at the same institution in 1976. In 1980, he received a Master of Fine Arts from the York University Department of Fine Arts in Downsview, ON. Housego graduated in 1982 from the University of Toronto, ON with a Bachelor of Education and obtained an Ontario Teacher’s Certificate. In 1995-96, he returned to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, NS to undertake independent study in Computers, Multimedia and Interactivity.
After a two-year teaching stint in Peace River, AB, Housego and his family settled in Grande Prairie, AB where he accepted a teaching post at the Grande Prairie Regional College in the Visual Arts Program. He continues to teach at the college to this day. Over his 30 year career he has worked in painting, sculpture, mixed media and collage. His work has a folk art quality, but does not fit neatly into the folk art category because of the artist’s academic education. Housego has had numerous solo exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Grande Prairie, with an exhibition entitled Beacon in 2015 that he refers to as “a mini retrospective of his work”. |
