ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Tammy Salzl is a painter and interdisciplinary artist whose work is driven by her interest in the power of storytelling and the connection between the human psyche and humankind’s relationship with the natural world. Much of her work examines the connections between societal beliefs, fable, and history, and the way they shift and change over time as myths become truths and facts become legend. Her work explores the impact mythologies of the past have on roles and attitudes that exist today. Salzl’s large-scale mixed media installations feel like immersive fairy tales, which she creates by combining painting, sculptural and natural elements alongside moving image and sound. Her oil paintings and watercolours capture complex narratives that seek to explore the landscapes of our inner selves. Salzl received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University in 2014. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in Canada, Germany, Mexico, and the United States, and she has received numerous awards and grants. Salzl has participated in residencies at I-Park International in the United States, the Klondike Institute of Arts and Culture in Yukon, The Banff Centre, KH Messen Art House in Norway, and the Vermont Studio Centre. Salzl divides her time between Edmonton and Montreal.
