| OTHER HOLDINGS: | Colmers, Eva | ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Eva Colmers is an independent filmmaker who has written, directed, and/or produced over a dozen award-winning short films in the dramatic, experimental and documentary genre. She has written and directed three NFB feature documentaries, as well as short films and episodes for television.
As an immigrant, Colmers explores various aspects of alienation and belonging in her work. When she moved to Canada in 1997, she focused primarily on theatre. Through workshops at FAVA (Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta), Alberta Media Production Industries Association (AMPIA), Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society (AMAAS), and the University of Alberta, she observed and acquired experience with productions that built her practical and theoretical knowledge of the writing, directing, and production facets of filmmaking.
Her films have been screened at over 100 international festivals as well as on television. She has received major awards for her accomplishments, including AMPIA’s Rosie Award for Directing, Alliance of Women Film Journalist’s EDA Award for Best Social Journalism (DOXA Festival Vancouver), Edmonton Film Prize 2015, FAVA Achievement Award, and AMAAS’ Helen Folkman Award. Colmers is a proud alumna of Women in the Director’s Chair (WIDC) and was recently accepted to the Director’s Guild of Canada. Her work has been supported by municipal, provincial, and national arts organizations as well as the professional media industry. Colmers teaches workshops through her Edmonton film co-op and frequently mentors emerging filmmakers.
