ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Mark Clintberg is an Assistant Professor in the School of Critical and Creative Studies at the Alberta College of Art & Design. He earned his Ph.D. in Art History at Concordia University in 2013, where he also served as an Assistant Professor. His doctoral dissertation was nominated for the 2013 Governor-General's Gold Medal. In 2010 he conducted Ph.D. research at Oxford University, St Peter's College. He completed his M.A. at Concordia University (2008), his B.F.A. at the Alberta College of Art and Design (2001), and was an exchange student at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design (1999-2000). Clintberg’s writing has been invited and published in numerous edited books, journals, periodicals, exhibition catalogues, and online publications. He has participated in several internationally acclaimed residencies, notably at Fogo Island Arts and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, where he additionally served as Lead Faculty of the Still Alive thematic residency in 2016. Public galleries and museums across Canada and in the U.S. have exhibited Clintberg’s curatorial projects and emotionally charged text-based art. He was Longlisted for the Sobey Art Award for the region Prairies and the North in 2016, Shortlisted for the Award in 2013, and was a 2014 finalist for the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Prize. He has received research and creation funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. His work is represented by Pierre François Ouellette art contemporain in Montreal, and held in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, the Bank of Montreal and TD Corporate Art Collections, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Edmonton Arts Council.
