ARTIST BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Gabor Nagy is a painter of portraits, still lifes, landscapes, and flowers, all imbued with layers of radiant colour. He began to paint seriously in 1968, after his passion for the arts led him to participate in workshops and courses in design, drawing, and painting. He started first with watercolour, gouache, and acrylics, and eventually moved to oils. Nagy has always been extremely interested in reflective surfaces, depicting a still life on a shiny table top, or a street scene just after a summer shower. This interest weaves its way into the subject matter he chooses to explore, whether it be brightly coloured fish in a sun-dappled pond, or cut flowers and glass in his studio. In search of inspiring subject matter, Nagy often visits water gardens in North America and Hawaii in order to explore the nuances of colour and light in different locales and under a variety of conditions. The knowledge gleaned from these explorations is captured in photography, which has become an essential part of his creative process. Photography allows him to capture fleeting moments in nature, which are then expanded upon on canvas in his studio. Nagy was educated in Canada, graduating in 1974 with a degree in regional planning from the University of Alberta. His focus and pursuit of art has been a constant throughout his life, and his paintings are represented in private and corporate collections world wide.
