HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Louis Normandeau was born and educated at Beauharnois, Quebec. He moved west as a young man in 1911 and homesteaded in Alberta in the district of Lac La Biche. In 1917 he joined the United Farmers of Alberta and then volunteered his services with the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1923. When the Alberta Wheat Pool set up a field service department in 1926, Normandeau was one of eight men appointed to the department. He spent many years travelling throughout the Edmonton District and Peace River Country holding meetings, canvassing farmers and doing public relations work. He resigned his position with the Wheat Pool at the end of 1947 after which he was elected a Director of Alberta Poultry Producers. In 1954 he became the Alberta Director on the Board of the Canadian Co-operative Council. He also served as the President of the Alberta Council and for 15 months he had charge of a daily broadcast sponsored by the Alberta Wheat Pool called 'One Man's Viewpoint.'
SCOPE AND CONTENT: Fonds consists of records reflecting Normandeau’s involvement with various farm organizations including correspondence, a diary and a radio speech given by Normandeau.
