HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Peter Melnycky was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He earned his MA in Social Sciences form the University of Manitoba where his thesis, "A Political History of the Ukrainian Community Manitoba, 1899 – 1922," was awarded the Manitoba Historical Society's Margaret McWilliams Medal for outstanding work on Manitoba History.
Since 1982 he has been a historian with Alberta Historic Sites and Museums, part of the Provincial Government of Alberta. Melnycky is also a researcher, historian, and is the author of Shelter, feed and dray: a structural history of the Radway Livery Barn and A veritable Canaan: Alberta's Victoria Settlement, is co-editor with Bohdan S. Kordan of In the Shadow of the Rockies: Diary of the Castle Mountain Internment Camp, 1915–1917, and contributor to Re-imagining Ukrainian Canadians: History, Politics and Identity. He has particular interest in fur trade, settlement, and military history.

Ed Magazine was published in Edmonton, Alberta from 2001-2007 as a weekly “young Edmonton” insert in the Edmonton Journal. In 2007, Ed became a strictly online publication at the URL edmontonjournal.com/ed. As of 2020, the link is no longer active. Like other local weekly publications of the era, Ed Magazine focused on local arts and culture, and offered a platform for alternative journalism.
