HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: David Spalding was born in Sheffield, England. After acquiring a degree in Geology, David and his wife, Andrea, moved to Edmonton, Alberta in 1967. While living in Edmonton, David served as a curator of the Provincial Museum of Alberta for fifteen years. His field of interest included the study of paleontology, and, in particular, dinosaurs. During his tenure as curator, David also began planning the development of the Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta. David Spalding is also credited with discovering a Lambeosaurus in museum packing cases. Over the years, David and Andrea collaborated on numerous projects. The two performed on a nationally run children's program for four years entitled "Storytime" while living in Edmonton. David and Andrea also performed as the folkduo "Brandywine." Brandywine produced two audio cassettes: "Breakfast with Brandywine" (1980), and "The Most Beautiful Kite in the World" (1988). In addition, David and Andrea partnered on several literary projects. After living in Edmonton for 24 years, David and Andrea Spalding moved to Pender Island, BC. The two currently operate the Arbutus Retreat Bed and Breakfast.
