The next year, the competition was opened to all Edmonton High Schools, both public and separate. The Edmonton Regional Science Fair was student run for its first two years, then organized by interested teachers from Edmonton area schools who formed the Edmonton Regional Science Fair Committee, later called the Edmonton Regional Science Fair Council. The 1963 Edmonton Regional Science Fair was opened to both individual and group projects, and to students from grades four through twelve. The Edmonton Regional Science Fair was to encourage the scientific and creative ability of students in North-Central Alberta. By 1973, the objective was to provide the youth of Edmonton and surrounding districts with an opportunity to develop and exhibit scientific projects. The Edmonton Regional Science Fair Council was incorporated under the Societies Act in early 1982 to plan a yearly science fair to be known as the Edmonton Regional Science Fair, to solicit monies for the purpose of operating a science fair and to provide focus for the scientific endeavors of students in the Edmonton area. | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of the records of the Edmonton Regional Science Fair Council and includes constitutions and by-laws, agenda, minutes, reports, financial statements, correspondence, Science Fair programs, newspaper clippings, Science Fair information and regulations, lists of council members, lists of award winners, information about science fairs by Alex Taylor and photographs of the fairs, students and science projects. | GENERAL NOTE: | Information for the administrative history is from the records and from the Edmonton Regional Science Fair website, http://www.ersf.ca/, accessed October 12, 2004. |
