HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Edmonton Baseball Club (1955) Limited (Ltd.) was incorporated on March 22, 1955 under the Companies Act. The company was to organize, operate and maintain a professional baseball team, conduct, hold and promote baseball games and matches, to acquire and hold franchises in baseball leagues. The Edmonton Baseball Club (1955) Ltd. differed from the Edmonton Baseball Club Limited (Ltd.) in the fact that it was a public company, not a private company, organized to attract support from those interested in the development of Western Canadian Baseball. It was not to be seen by shareholders as an investment. The Company supported the Edmonton Eskimos baseball team in the Western Canadian Baseball League, which became the Canadian-American, or Can-Am, League in 1959. The Edmonton Baseball Club withdrew from the League for the 1960 season. The Edmonton Baseball Club (1955) Ltd. suspended its operations at the end of 1959
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:John Ducey and Brant E. Ducey, John Ducey's son, deposited the records in the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1982 and 1996.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of the records of the Edmonton Baseball Club (1955) Limited, and includes incorporation records, minutes, share certificates, financial records, agreements, copies of minutes of the Western Canadian Baseball League and the Canadian-American (Can-Am) League and correspondence.
