HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: The Edmonton Folk Music Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to hosting an annual Folk Music Festival in Edmonton, Alberta. The Society incorporated in 1985 and has hosted the festival since 1980. A nine member board sets policies and hires staff. The Board maintains working committees involving society members year-round to develop and deliver a variety of plans to improve the festival. Volunteers primarily deliver the majority of the services that the festival provides; over 2000 volunteers on forty-six work crews. A producer, currently Terry Wickham, manages the operations and all staff. The Society currently maintains one full-time, two part-time as well as six to eight seasonal staff. Staff manages artistic direction, budgeting, performer contracts, administration and accounting, production, marketing and media relations, and volunteers. The society funds the festival through corporate sponsorship and fund raising activities.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of material documenting the activities of the Edmonton Folk Music Society and pertaining to the operation of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. The fonds includes board minutes, alphabetical office files, performer biographies, performer applications, festival line-ups, correspondence, and contract files dating from 1980 to 1991.
