| HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | The Intercollegiate Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) of Edmonton was a federation of YMCA branches that existed at a number of Edmonton educational institutions, including Robertson College, Alberta College South, Alberta College North and The University of Alberta. The initial meeting of the Intercollegiate Association occurred in January, 1914. A Nominating Committee was struck in February and officers were in place by the time of the first meeting in March, 1914. The purpose of the Intercollegiate YMCA of Edmonton was to promote a Christian way of life through prayer and bible study and a devotion to Christian service. In addition to religious meetings, the group also held general business meetings and an annual meeting. It also had a Student Advisory Board, consisting of church members connected to each of the representative educational institutions, whose members were to give general advice and direction to the Intercollegiate. The Intercollegiate association was also federated with the Metropolitan organization of the Young Men's Christian Association of Edmonton. The Intercollegiate YMCA of Edmonton has since ceased operations. |
| CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | Records deposited under accession number PR1975.0387 were acquired sometime prior to 1975 however there is no surviving record of the details. In 1975, the Conference entered into a permanent loan agreement with the Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA) for the physical custody and control of the holdings of the Conference Archives and the records were relocated to the PAA in that same year. |
