HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Emily E. Collinge (neé Baine) was born on March 22, 1893 in England. In 1916, Emily traveled from Burrow-in-Furness to the South Cooking Lake region of Alberta. From ca.1916 to the 1940's, Emily lived and worked on a homestead with her husband, Harry Collinge. Harry was born in 1889 in England, and immigrated to Alberta in 1908. In the 1940's, the Collinges moved to Vancouver, and retired from farming. After retirement, the Collinges enjoyed international travel. The Collinges had four children: Kathleen, George, Harold, and Ed. The children attended Fultondale School #2477 located at the Northwest Section of Township 51, Range 22, West of the 4th Meridian (NW 51-22-W4).
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:Kathleen Williams, daughter of Emily Collinge, donated her mother’s records to the City of Vancouver Archives. The City of Vancouver Archives transferred the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1990.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of diaries documenting Emily's journey from Burrow-in-Furness, England in 1916 to Cooking Lake Alberta. The diaries also describe Emily's years on the farm from 1916-1919. The fonds also contains photographs of the Collinge family dating from 1917-1943. Additionally, these photos display the Fultonvale School District. The fonds also includes passport photos of Emily and Harry dating from 1960 and 1979, Emily's birth certificate, and newspaper clippings.
