HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Prior to 1944, Jack Stewart worked as a trapper, fur trader, and Warden for Wood Buffalo Park near Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. From 1944 to 1967 Jack Stewart served as an Indian Agent for the Athabasca Agency at Fort Chipewyan.
CUSTODIAL HISTORY:In 1993, Patricia McCormack donated the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta. The provenance of the material prior to 1993 is unknown.
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The fonds consists of a combination of datebook and diary used by Jack Stewart in 1960 while he served as an Indian Agent for the Athabasca Agency at Fort Chipewyan.
ASSOCIATED MATERIAL: See also PR1971.0011, diaries of past employees of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in Ft. Chipewyan dating from 1939-1959 in the Alan Ridge fonds (PR0068).
