| | ADMINISTRATIVE | | HISTORY/BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: | Trifon Fedoruk was born April 14, 1897 in Ukraine; he was the oldest son of Filimon and Maria (Batrenowski) Fedoruk. The family immigrated to Canada in 1902, settling in Shepenitz of the Northwest Territories (later Alberta). In 1918 he married Senafta Werenka, and they had three children, William, Michael and Elsie (1922-1928). Senafta died in 1924. In 1925, Trifon married Mary Karpowich and the family moved to Vegreville, Alberta. Trifon and Mary had two children, Ernest and Lola. In Vegreville, Trifon worked as a mechanic, and was projectionist for Kieryluk's theatre (Vimy Theatre) for a number of years. He also operated Fedoruk's Photo Studio in Vegreville and toured films to the surrounding area under the name Fedoruk's Travelling Show. In 1941, the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Trifon worked as a machinist for Standard Iron Works, until retiring in 1962. He continued to work as a projectionist while in Edmonton. Trifon Fedoruk died October 1984. | | CUSTODIAL HISTORY: | Michael Fedoruk, Trifon Fedoruk's son, donated the records to the Provincial Archives of Alberta in 1991. | | SCOPE AND CONTENT: | The fonds consists of films, photographs, sound recordings, textual material and negatives that document the life, business, family and friends of Trifon Fedoruk, in all the life of a rural photographer and theatre owner. | | LANGUAGE NOTE: | The material is in English and Ukrainian. | | ASSOCIATED MATERIAL: | See also the Trifon Fedoruk collection at Library and Archives Canada.
