Functional Responsibility:
The Alberta Commercial Corporation was created pursuant to the passage of The Alberta Commercial Services Act (S.A. Chapter 12, 1964), which repealed and replaced the Alberta Marketing Act (R.S.A. Chapter 191, 1955). All property, good etc used or owned by the Provincial Marketing Board and its subsidiary, Marketing Services Limited. were transferred to the Alberta Commercial Corporation. The Alberta Commercial Corporation was funded by the Treasury Department from 1965 to 1972. The Corporation ceased to exist in 1972 when its assets and liabilities were transformed to the Alberta Opportunity Company.
Alberta Commercial Corporation functioned to provide assistance to producers and to the operators of manufacturing plants that were established or that by means of such assistance would be established in the Province. The Corporation provided technical and business support and guidance to persons and organizations. The Corporation encouraged trade, industry and the development of markets for goods produced in Alberta.

Administrative Relationships:
The Lieutenant Governor in Council appointed the members of the board other than the chairman. The Lieutenant Governor in Council could designate one of the members as vice-chairman. The Alberta Commercial Branch provided clerical, accounting, technical and other assistance to the Alberta Commercial Corporation as required by the Corporation to carry out its functions.
The Provincial Treasurer under the enabling legislation was authorized to make, at the request of the Corporation, advances of such sums out of the General Revenue Fund of the Province as required for the purpose of transacting the business of the Corporation.

Administrative Structure:
A Board of Directors conducted the affairs of the Corporation. In the original enabling legislation the Board consisted of the Director of the Alberta Commercial Branch and no more than four other members. The Director of the Alberta Commercial Branch was Chairman of the Board.
