TITLE: Career Development Sector administrative records

EXTENT: 4.90 m of textual records
ADMINISTRATIVE
SCOPE AND CONTENT: The series consists of records from the Career Development Sector whose mandate was to contribute to human and economic growth by assisting Albertans to improve the pattern and quality of career transitions between school, training, work and retirement. A wide range of programs and services were offered such as career and employment counselling, relocation services, immigration and settlement services, career resources (support to agencies and organizations that supply career planning information or counselling to Albertans), and field services (support to education counsellors, social workers, human resource officers, and other professionals who assist people in the area of career development). The records are correspondence files documenting the operations of the Hire-A-Student program; case files including contracts documenting institutions involved in the settlement and training of immigrants to Alberta; and reports and statistics on the movement, settlement and surveillance of refugees and immigrants. The series also contains contracts documenting sponsors, associations and aid agencies which provided settlement and training assistance for immigrants and refugees to assist in adjusting to life in Alberta. The Provincial Archives selected these files as samples of the operations of the various programs.
